Alain Prost was the victim of a violent assault at his home in Nyon, Switzerland, on Tuesday morning. According to the Swiss media outlet Blick, several hooded individuals managed to break into his lakeside residence around 8:30 a.m. in an attempted burglary. The seventy-one-year-old four-time world champion reportedly directly confronted the intruders, leading to a physical altercation where he sustained head injuries.
Initial reports suggest that the assailants also targeted other occupants in Alain Prost’s home. Under duress, one of Prost’s sons was forced to open a safe. The exact amount of the stolen property has not yet been disclosed. The perpetrators then fled the scene, while the situation was still being clarified.
Investigation underway and enhanced security
An investigation has been launched by Swiss authorities, who have deployed a significant search operation in the Nyon area to apprehend the attackers. As a precaution, cooperation with the French gendarmerie has also been activated, with law enforcement concerned about a potential escape across the border. A psychological support unit has been set up for the family, while Alain Prost has reportedly traveled to Dubai, where he regularly resides.
A prominent figure still active in the world of motorsport
A major figure in motorsport, Alain Prost is one of the most successful Formula 1 drivers in history. He won four world championships in 1985, 1986, 1989, and 1993, being the last French driver to achieve this feat. After his racing career, he remained an important personality in the paddock and French sport, often linked to the history of the sport. This assault comes at a time when the former champion leads a more discreet life between several residences, including in Switzerland.
Several athletes have recently fallen victim to similar home invasions, such as Portuguese footballer João Cancelo, who was attacked during a burglary in England in December 2021, sustaining facial injuries while trying to resist the intruders who stole jewelry as his family was present.
