What’s New this Week on Streaming Platforms

  • New releases this week on streaming platforms are captivating viewers with a fast-paced tempo.
  • Whether you want to laugh, shiver, or escape, here is a selection that will likely liven up your extended weekend from the comfort of your couch.

“What should we watch tonight?” If you spend more time choosing a program than enjoying it, don’t skip this! Every week, TF1info presents the best of the new releases on streaming platforms. Movies, series, or documentaries, we place our bets on these productions that will be the talk of the town at the beginning of next week. On the menu this Friday, May 22nd: the arrival of a beloved Spanish saga for Gen Z in free streaming, the first Women’s Champions League final, and Karin Viard in her first English-speaking role.

“In the Wrong Direction”

Doomed lovers who are fond of fast cars, like in “Fast and Furious,” in a very sizzling atmosphere? After causing a stir on Prime Video, the first installment of the Spanish saga adapted from the novels of Mercedes Ron moves into high gear, this time in free streaming. When Noah’s mother remarries, the young woman is forced to move in with her new family. However, between her and Nick, her stepbrother, the connection is as instant as it is fiery. Immediate success upon its release three years ago, the phenomenon was such that two more films and an English version followed. Worth watching, if only to stay up-to-date with Gen Z.

Women’s Champions League Final

The Olympique Lyonnais Lyonnes are going for their ninth European crown. The Lyon players will face Barcelona this Saturday, May 23rd, from 6 PM in a rematch of the 2024 UEFA Women’s Champions League final. The Lyon team hopes to add another success to their season, following their victory in the French Cup and before the French Championship final where they will defend their title against Paris FC six days later. A perfect warm-up for the second Women’s Champions League final, which will see PSG’s Ousmane Dembele against Arsenal on Saturday, May 30th.

“Jack Ryan: Ghost War”

He hasn’t said his last word. Three years after the conclusion of the series, John Krasinski returns as Jack Ryan. The former CIA agent, now working in civilian life, is caught up in his past. He is compelled to return to service to stop a deadly conspiracy led by a dissenting clandestine unit. From New York to London, via Dubai, this “Jack Ryan: Ghost War” ticks all the boxes of a grandiose spy film. Reserved for fans of explosions and intense fights.

Where to watch? On Prime.

“Vanished”

American Alice thought she was going on a dream vacation with her boyfriend, British Tom, under the southern French sun. But that was before he disappeared while their TGV was on its way to Marseille. Was it voluntary disappearance or kidnapping? What happened to this seemingly ordinary humanitarian at first sight? “Vanished” follows the same premise as the excellent series “The Flight Attendant,” not only because it is led by the excellent Kaley Cuoco, also a star of “The Big Bang Theory.” While the investigation leads you to unexpected paths, the rushed ending is regrettable. The pleasant surprise of these four one-hour episodes is the presence of our French actress Karin Viard, who had never acted in English before.

Where to watch? On HBO Max.

“Ladies First”

What if patriarchy was a matriarchy? That’s the starting point of the film “Ladies First,” a sharp comedy that flips the script to denounce the sometimes sexist aspects of our society. After colliding with a lamppost on the street, the detestable Damien wakes up in a world where women behave like men, and thus have the power. A satire of the times with Sacha Baron Cohen, the star of “Borat,” and Rosamund Pike (“Gone Girl”).
