Louey Ouerrat’s presence in the Vosges is rare. In 2023, he headed to the CREPS in Montpellier to explore a potential that everyone recognizes in him. Under the expert eye of Bruno Gajer, the former mentor of Pierre-Ambroise Bosse (world champion in London in 2017, 4th in the Rio Olympics in 2016).

Pointed out in terms of passage times, in juniors, that the world champion, the athlete of AVEC, does not escape comparison. “Sometimes people tell me, I see attitudes or little traits of Pierre-Ambroise Bosse in this session. The legacy is a bit heavy to carry nonetheless (laughs),” quips the interested party, behind a small contained smile.

In Montpellier, the AVEC athlete found the ideal environment. “Whether it’s the environment, more professional infrastructures, a group with the same goals, the emulation is constant. There have been some departures and today I share the daily life of three 800m runners, including an Englishman. I believe it’s enough, without unnecessary confrontation in training. There is only benevolence.”

His weeks are marked by ten workouts and a rest day, usually on Sundays. “The mornings are dedicated to specific sessions with the coach. And the afternoons consist of cycling or lighter running to build endurance.”

“Confident enough for the future”

The Spinalien tried to balance studies as a physiotherapist, but he has just put them on hold. “To avoid shooting myself in the foot regarding my goals in athletics. I give myself a year to see how it goes,” explains Louey Ouerrat. French Elite Champion this winter, he was stopped by a hamstring injury. “During a period where I had planned to take a break anyway. The Indoor World Championships were scheduled for March, too far for the future.”

Back on stage, Louey Ouerrat has the European Championships in Birmingham (August 10-16) on his radar. With several paths for access. “You have to finish 1st or 2nd at the French Elite Championships (Albi, July 24-26). There are also the A standards set at 1’43” or the B standards at 1’44”8 (to be achieved twice).”

To position himself, Louey Ouerrat will compete this Wednesday at the Nerja meeting in southern Spain. He will then continue on Saturday in Brussels. The goal is also to earn points to access the Diamond League opportunities.

“Clémence Beretta in La Corogne”

As suggested after her huge disappointment at the Podebrady meeting where she was stopped just a hundred meters from the finish line while achieving the B standards in the half-marathon race walking event for the European Championships, Clémence Beretta will compete this Saturday in La Corogne. With the goal of achieving these standards, the deadline being set on May 25.
