A judge has suspended the charges against a woman accused of attempting to murder Rihanna and more than a dozen other serious crimes. The case has been referred to a psychiatric court to determine her fitness to stand trial.

During a hearing in Los Angeles, court-appointed attorney Derek Dillman expressed doubts about the mental health of his client, Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, a 35-year-old from Orlando, Florida.

Ortiz pleaded not guilty to shooting at the home of Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, and their children. Judge Shannon K. Cooley ordered psychiatric evaluations and temporarily transferred the case to a specialized psychiatric court in Hollywood.

“It is the ethical duty of lawyers and the court to ensure the protection of Ms. Ortiz’s rights,” said Dillman in an email to the Associated Press.

The prosecution declined to comment.

If found unfit to stand trial, Ortiz could be indefinitely interned in a state psychiatric hospital until fit to face the charges. She is scheduled to appear in court on June 2, where a man accused of harassing Jennifer Aniston was recently declared unfit to stand trial.

According to police, on March 8, Ortiz arrived in a Tesla at Rihanna’s property in Beverly Hills and fired at least 20 shots, but no one was injured.

Ortiz is charged with ten counts of assault with a semi-automatic weapon, one for each person present at the two properties, as well as three counts of shooting at an occupied vehicle or home.

Ortiz had no prior criminal record and worked as a certified speech therapist for over ten years.

Authorities have not disclosed a motive or any connection between Ortiz and Rihanna.

Nine-time Grammy winner Rihanna has had fourteen Billboard Hot 100 number one hits, including “We Found Love,” “Work,” “Umbrella,” and “Disturbia.”
