    A pedestrian was killed Tuesday morning after being struck by a garbage truck in a parking lot off Ivy Drive near the Winchester Street roundabouts, according to Keene police. The incident remains under investigation.

    KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A pedestrian was killed Tuesday morning after being struck by a garbage truck in a parking lot off Ivy Drive, according to Keene police.

    Capt. Steve Tenney said the incident occurred at approximately 11 a.m. in the parking lot shared by Chipotle and other businesses near the Winchester Street roundabouts.

    Police are treating the incident as a motor vehicle accident and said the investigation remains in its early stages. The identities of both the driver and the victim were not immediately available Tuesday afternoon.

    Emergency responders established a large investigation scene in the area, with a portion of the Chipotle parking lot taped off. Keene Police’s Crime Scene Unit was on scene, along with members of the Keene Fire Department and New Hampshire State Police.

    As investigators worked, Ivy Drive was closed near the rear entrance serving McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Chipotle. Tenney said the roadway was expected to reopen within about an hour. Nearby businesses remained open during the investigation.

    At noon, police and emergency vehicles could still be seen throughout the area as authorities continued to gather evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
