As the ballots were opened, the outcome of the election became clear. On Sunday, shortly after 6pm, the list led by Pascal Massa won decisively in Toulonjac. They received 78.1% of the votes (346 votes) and earned 14 seats, compared to 21.9% (97 votes) and one seat for Mr. Forey’s list. The turnout was 71.7%: 456 out of 636 eligible voters participated. During almost an hour of counting, the town hall was full, with residents and supporters watching the results live and commenting on them. Upon the official announcement, Pascal Massa thanked the voters for their trust. The outgoing mayor, Gilles Ruscassi, sees this as “a realization by the residents”. During discussions, the issue of municipal finances, central to the campaign, was raised multiple times. Some mentioned Thierry Azzola, a public finance specialist, who praised the management rigor and financial solidity of the municipality. Others highlighted a lower debt per capita compared to similar municipalities. Several residents challenged the concerns raised by Jean-Luc Forey about potential school closures, in a context of declining birth rates and demographic stability in Aveyron. This broader concern was recently echoed by MP Laurent Alexandre, who warned about job cuts and the vulnerability of rural schools. After the announcement of the results, congratulations were exchanged. “We hoped for a score like this. The campaign was painful on both sides. We stand for values of humanism and tolerance,” concluded Pascal Massa.
