Pop duo Vilain Cœur unveil their new music video for “Madame Caprice” on the International Day Against Homophobia

The pop duo Vilain Cœur has revealed their music video for “Madame Caprice,” a fable about self-discovery, released on May 17th for the International Day Against Homophobia.

Following a successful single collaboration with JoeyStarr, “D’où je viens,” the duo Vilain Cœur presented their new video for “Madame Caprice” on Sunday, May 17. Released on the occasion of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, this visual and musical piece explores the notions of identity, vulnerability, and criticizes a society obsessed with recognition.

A disenchanting tale of self-discovery

The video for “Madame Caprice” is presented as a modern and disenchanting tale. It features a woman, portrayed by a transgender actress, engaging in a merciless duel with her own reflection in a mirror. The duality is at the heart of the visual narrative, symbolized by a strong chromatic opposition between bright pink and deep blue. “Mirror, mirror, tell me who is the truest…,” questions the song, illustrating this internal struggle between the projected image and the truth of being. The choice of release date is not coincidental: it is, according to the creators, a “symbolic moment to pay tribute to the deep quest for self.”

A critique of the society of appearance

Through a unique pop melody, the duo questions the “perpetual need for recognition that gnaws at our contemporary society.” The song addresses the inner emptiness that neither overconsumption nor appearances can fill. By exploring the contrast between the ideal and vulnerability, Vilain Cœur delivers a text that aims to resonate the intimate in a universal dimension, a trademark of the group.

The chemistry of an atypical duo

Vilain Cœur is composed of Cris, who writes and performs, and Sofi, who composes and arranges. Former members of the group Glasgow, they have cultivated a creative alchemy based on complementarity. They describe themselves as “two ventricles to make one Vilain Cœur beat,” a metaphor for their acknowledged parity and artistic complicity, both in the studio and on stage. Their approach is to explore the flaws of the human being through complex pop melodies, driven by an embodied and sensitive writing.

Stories that are linear and rooted

Their recent EP, “Le cimetière des chats,” reflects this artistic ambition. The record brings together five tracks that poetically address fundamental themes such as mental health, ecology, uprooting, and the grieving process. JoeyStarr’s participation on the track “D’où je viens” brought an additional intensity to this opus that navigates between melancholy and the quest for optimism.

The music video for “Madame Caprice” can be found on the group’s YouTube channel. Vilain Cœur is also present on Facebook and Instagram. Their music is available on all digital platforms.
