On the occasion of the day dedicated to women and science, on Wednesday, February 11, Sarah Merciol, a perfumer chemist, was invited to the Suzanne-Bourquin school to explain her journey. “After a scientific high school diploma, I studied physics chemistry and specialized in a master’s degree in scent, perfume, and cosmetics,” she said. For two years, she has created her own company called Shesmou, in reference to the Egyptian god of perfumes, she added. The students of CE2-CM1 asked her many questions: “Do you work for big brands?” “No, I work alone and make personalized perfumes,” she replied. “How long does it take to create a perfume?” “It often takes a year. We do a lot of blends before finding the right one,” she explained. “How do you become a perfumer?” “You have to study and practice a lot to develop a sense of smell,” she emphasized. This was a great opportunity to encourage young girls to pursue scientific studies, facing the ongoing male dominance in many fields. Contact: s.meriol@shesmou.com – shesmou.com – 07 80 58 26 42.
