The United States suspects the Cuban government of preparing attacks on the American bases of Guantanamo and Key West in Florida in case hostilities break out after months of tensions.

Journalists from the news website Axios prefer to remain cautious. They learned from confidential reports from American intelligence that Cuba had acquired more than 300 military drones from Iran and Russia and had recently started to develop plans to attack the US naval base in Guantanamo Bay, as well as American military ships and the naval base in Key West, Florida. However, they point out at the beginning of their article published on Sunday that this information could mainly “serve as a pretext for a US military intervention” on the island.

The United States does not actually see Cuba as an imminent existential threat and does not believe that the Castro regime is actively preparing for war. Their fleet of fighter jets does not raise any concerns. “We don’t even know if they have a single one capable of flying!” a senior American official mentioned in the article.
