On Sunday, May 17, Russia claimed to have been targeted by an attack from Ukraine, involving around 600 drones, resulting in three deaths in the vicinity of Moscow and one death in the Belgorod region, according to BFM. This is one of the most massive attacks since the conflict began four years ago.
Meanwhile, the Russian government states that the Russian anti-air defense shot down about 600 Ukrainian drones between 10 PM and 7 AM local time, and 30 drones between 7 AM and 9 AM local time. This attack is much stronger than previous attacks and has occurred over 14 Russian regions, Crimea, and the Black and Azov Seas. Moscow is the most affected region, with over 80 drones being stopped in its airspace above the city. One Ukrainian strike caused twelve injuries, while a woman was killed in the northwest of the country, and two others died in Mytishchi.
In the Belgorod region, on the border between the two countries, a man was also killed after a Ukrainian drone struck a truck in the Chebekino district. This Ukrainian offensive is presented as a response to the deadly Russian strikes that occurred from Wednesday to Thursday night.
Following these Russian strikes, 24 people, including three teenagers, died, and around 50 others were injured. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had warned of a planned response to this Russian attack.
