What are the missions of the ambassador?
The ambassador is responsible for representing France in the defense of the rights of LGBT+ people, particularly in the fight for universal decriminalization. They engage in dialogue with states and regularly meet with civil society actors mobilized on these issues, often working under difficult conditions. Coalitions to promote the rights of LGBT+ people
In 2016, the Coalition for Equality of Rights, which brings together 45 states from different continents, was established to coordinate international efforts in support of the rights of LGBT+ people. The Coalition held its latest conference in Berlin on December 17-18, 2024. It is currently co-chaired by Spain and Colombia, with France actively participating.
Within the United Nations, in New York and Geneva, countries most committed to this issue regularly consult to develop common positions and advocate, together, for greater consideration of the protection of LGBT+ people in multilateral forums.
Within the EU, exchanges between like-minded states on the rule of law and fundamental rights are regularly initiated on this subject. Furthermore, an LGBTIQ subgroup, part of the EU High-Level Group against hate crimes and hate speech, was established in 2021 and now meets regularly.
