“Over 160 UAVs (drones)” have been “identified near nuclear sites” in the past 24 hours in Ukraine.

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, called on Russia and Ukraine on Thursday, May 14th to exercise “maximum restraint” as the agency noted an “intensification” of military activities near several Ukrainian nuclear sites, stating that it poses “significant risks.”

Over the past 24 hours, IAEA teams have been informed of
“a significant increase in activity (…) with over 160 UAVs (drones) identified near nuclear sites”, according to the UN nuclear watchdog agency in a statement.

“Deep concern”

“Although IAEA teams have not reported any direct impact on nuclear safety, Director General Rafael Grossi expressed
deep concern about such military activities,” the statement added.

These activities “have intensified in recent days, posing significant risks to nuclear safety and security,” the same source continued.

In this statement, Rafael Grossi called on “all parties to exercise maximum restraint.”

Russia bombarded Kyiv for hours on Thursday, launching hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles in a deadly attack, further diminishing hopes of a resolution to this deadly conflict that has lasted for over four years.
