The association Scopre will conclude 2022 with two concerts of different genres for the final week of the year. The virtuoso Tony Fallone will be present at the Scopre association’s premises on Tuesday evening. The young pianist will perform pieces from the greatest classical composers, taking his audience on a dreamlike journey perfect for this festive season. In a completely different register, the singer Maï Pesce will follow him on Thursday. One of the most beautiful voices of the region, he will perform in the Maistrale hall, delivering well-known songs to the audience, blending lyricism and traditional Corsican songs. Eclectic choices in line with the aspirations of the association’s members, who have been working since its foundation to “bring the public closer to culture.”
Culture and social bond in rural areas
For over 30 years, the organization has stayed on course: live performances, music, singing, theater, workshops, and exchange times regularly take place in the Spelunca-Liamone communities. “Two years ago, we implemented our program Ogni paesi with the aim of spreading culture throughout the entire micro-region,” the association’s leaders recall. For them, one point is essential: “That the population of this part of the island has access to quality entertainment, especially in the winter; activities also help maintain social bonds among rural residents.”
Again this year, Scopre has not deviated from the rule: in one year, the organization has hosted and distributed no less than 57 shows. “We have maintained a steady pace thanks to the island, foreign, or mainland artists who have trusted us by sharing our values and policies. They performed in places sometimes ill-suited for shows, without the assurance of a large audience,” emphasize the association members, who warmly thank the artists who have supported the idea and participated in the activist action.
Activism
This action, faithful to its guiding principle, has taken an additional step by supporting local artistic creation: “We decided to participate in the creation of the play ‘Nevertheless, on December 13, 1922, I was born,’ by the director François-Xavier Marchi. Scopre coproduced the show created and performed by rural artists from our theater workshops,” it is specified.
It is precisely these workshops that help make Scopre “una casa culturale e sociale.” Theater, music, drawing, Corsican or contemporary dance, conferences, or exchange times on societal and current topics regularly take place in partner communities. “We strive to meet the residents’ wishes. Each request is examined and generally implemented quickly. We also encourage the population to express their desires,” insists the management. At the dawn of its 35 years, the association Scopre can boast of being an example to follow in the cultural and associational world of the island and beyond. “We are fortunate to be supported by partner municipalities, various institutional structures, and to benefit from the support of private sponsors whom we would like to thank. Of course, our first support and driving force remains the population,” conclude the association’s leaders.
