The saxophonist and composer Julien Ndiaye (Jultrane) is an artist with an intense stage presence and communicative energy. His musical universe is deeply rooted in jazz, integrating Afro-Cuban influences and the African music that shaped his childhood.

In the summer of 2025, Julien Ndiaye had the idea to record an album as a tribute to John Coltrane & Miles Davis in honor of the centenary of their births.

After his album “Jultrane plays John” in 2025 in a quartet, Julien Ndiaye completes his work of memory and eternal recognition by offering us these 7 rearranged standards interpreted by his Sextet Duplex, with whom he released the album “Creation” in 2023.

It is at the Meudon studio that Julien Ndiaye gathers Renaud Gensane on trumpet, Cyril Galamini on trombone, Frédéric D’Oelsnitz on piano, Gabriel Pierre on double bass, and Laurent Sarrien on drums with one idea in mind: to explore tirelessly a repertoire drawing from modal music.

Julien Ndiaye likes to surround himself and share, so he invited the trumpeter Christian Altehülshorst on “Seven Steps to Heaven.” He also invited the singer Monika Kabasele on “Flamenco Sketches,” who wrote a text that perfectly complements Miles’ anthem: “Freedom is a place full of space, free from conventions, it is a moving reality… A melody changes everything, reveals a new world.”

This record marks a turning point in the tenor saxophonist’s career, who has already announced a new album to be released this fall, highlighting his talent as a composer, titled “Confirmation.”
