It was an unexpected comeback. But nostalgia didn’t sway the jury and the audience. Boy George, an icon of the 80s with his group Culture Club, participated in the performance of the contestant from San Marino at Eurovision 2026 during the first semi-final on Tuesday, May 12.
Singer Senhit represented her small country, landlocked in Italy, with the catchy song Superstar. Donning a disco dress and sequin coat, she looked straight out of a nightclub from that era. Two-thirds into the song, Boy George appeared on a silver stage, wearing a facet hat on his head.
Despite this surprise feature and a stage setup complete with lasers and flamethrowers, the San Marino contestant did not qualify for the next round of the competition.
The Finnish, Greek, and Israeli favorites secured their spots without surprises. Belgium, Sweden, Moldova, Serbia, Croatia, Lithuania, and Poland also earned their tickets to the final on Saturday, May 16, unlike Estonia, Georgia, Montenegro, and Portugal.
