The 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival will begin on the evening of Tuesday, May 12. 22 films will be judged on this occasion and dozens of stars are expected to walk the famous red carpet of the Croisette.
They are already playing the stars. Two students from Savoy are discovering Cannes and its festival for the first time. They already imagine themselves walking up the steps. “It’s a dream to fulfill once in a lifetime, so I hope to be able to do it one day,” one of them declares. “I am particularly a fan of Korean series and director Park Chan-wook. I would love to see him,” another one adds.
But on the morning of Tuesday, May 12, the star of Cannes is the red carpet. Before being trodden by a multitude of stars, the red carpet is laid out in front of a host of professional and amateur cameras, like this American influencer. “Being in front of these iconic steps is truly a big moment. So, we absolutely wanted to see the installation of the red carpet,” she says.
This hotel is getting ready to welcome several members of the festival jury, as well as American stars. One of them will stay in this suite. However, it is impossible to know who it is. “As a special touch, we have embroidered the bathrobes with the initials of the person,” says Cathy Boilot, guest experience manager at the Carlton hotel.
The hotel has been meticulously decorated as the establishment has enlisted a floral designer who has created peonies specifically for the Cannes Film Festival. Will the jury be as meticulous with the 22 films in competition? The beginning of an answer will be tonight with the screening of the film “The Electric Venus” by Pierre Salvadori.
