Invited by Elisabeth Assayag this Tuesday, producer Wassim Béji expressed his concern about a potential collapse of French cinema. He pointed out that the industry allows France to shine internationally.

As the Cannes Film Festival opened this Tuesday, producer Wassim Béji, speaking to Elisabeth Assayag, emphasized the importance of preserving French cinema.

“When something works in this country, sometimes there is a tendency to want to destroy it”

He cited the example of Italian cinema, which “collapsed in the 1980s” after being a leader in the industry, attributing it to a policy of abandonment. He also expressed concern that the same fate could befall French cinema, noting a pattern of wanting to destroy successful aspects of the country.

While acknowledging that the current system has flaws that need improvement, the guest on La France bouge highlighted the importance of cinema in providing employment and showcasing French culture internationally.
