Andalusians have secured their spot in the next Champions League by beating Elche on Tuesday night.

Seville Betis secured their place in the Champions League with a victory over Elche (2-1) and Celta Vigo’s defeat against Levante (3-2) on the 36th matchday. With 57 points and two matchdays left, the Andalusians are guaranteed to finish in fifth place, securing direct qualification to the prestigious competition. The team has only competed in the Champions League once, during the 2005-06 season. Coach Manuel Pellegrini’s team made the difference with Pablo Fornals’ goal (69th minute) after Elche’s French defender Léo Petrot was sent off (49th minute).

Celta Vigo (6th, 50 pts) suffered their fifth home defeat in 2026 and now must fight to secure their presence in the Europa League next season. Levante’s victory was a significant step towards maintaining their position. Valencia-based Levante moved up from the penultimate place to 16th (39 pts), but the battle for survival remains tight as six teams are separated by just two points between 14th and 19th place.

In the last match of the evening, Atlético Madrid won against Osasuna (2-1) in a game with little at stake for the already qualified Colchoneros for the next Champions League. The matchday continues until Thursday, with Real Madrid-Oviedo as the closing match.
