The first time this 29-year-old man from Bayonne talks about his daily life as a gay teenager on the coast was during the release of his EP “Biarritz en été” in 2024. This new project builds on that story, this time drawing inspiration from local mythology. “I wanted to delve into the aspect of monsters and make connections with us, marginalized people. We have in common the feeling of being apart.”

He argues this difference is due to the lack of places, events, and representations that are “hetero-coded.” “We live in an area with a lot of traffic, between tourism and proximity to the border, which promotes diversity and exchange. I am convinced that things are happening on the queer issue, but they don’t necessarily make noise.”

    Various contributions

A fertile ground for this initiative, which quickly found its audience. “At first, we were twelve and the magazine was supposed to be fifty pages long. Then I launched the call for projects in January and people had a month to send in their contributions. Today, it’s 180 pages.” The fanzine layout was completed in April and a first pre-sale, ending on May 10, met 200% of the goals with 313 books ordered. “Purchases contribute to funding new prints,” continues the young man. A new pre-order operation should be announced at the end of the week. A system of free pick-up has been set up with the Kaxu gallery in Bayonne and the Itsas Mendi cinema in Urrugne.

A launch party will be held on June 24 and will feature a drag show by artists from the La Décadence association.
