The President of the United States regularly boasts of controlling the country of Latin America after capturing Nicolas Maduro on January 3.
Donald Trump published a drawing on Tuesday on his Truth Social platform showing Venezuela in the colors of the United States with the caption “51st state” . This post was also shared by the White House X account, even as his counterpart in Caracas stated that their country had “never considered” becoming American.
The Republican regularly claims to control the Latin American country, having captured the ousted president Nicolas Maduro on January 3. The American president, who had threatened several times to make Canada the “51st American state” during his tenure, now carries these aspirations to Venezuela. In March, he had already posted a message hinting at this possibility: “Good things are happening in Venezuela lately (…) 51st state, anyone?”
The interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, denied this possibility on Monday, stating that it had “never been considered, because if there is one thing we, Venezuelans, have, it is that we love our process of independence, we love our heroes and heroines.” She added that her government was working on “a diplomatic cooperation agenda” with the United States, after restoring diplomatic relations with Washington in March, broken by Nicolas Maduro seven years ago.
