Ten years ago, a few passionate people strapped on their roller skates with a somewhat crazy idea: to bring roller derby to Aurillac. This contact team sport on roller skates pits two teams against each other on an oval track, aiming to overtake opponents to score points. Ten years later, the Pintades Killers have matured. The Aurillac association is celebrating its first decade of existence this year and plans to mark the occasion with a festive day at Lescudilliers hall on May 23, 2026. Here’s what’s planned.
Activities Throughout the Day
Leading the group, Sysyjusy, president of the association, reflects on the journey taken. “Just two years ago, we were almost starting from scratch,” she reveals. Since then, the club has gained momentum. This season, more than 25 licensed players make up the ranks of the Pintades, with a full schedule of matches, workshops, friendly matches, and trips.
To celebrate these ten years of shoulder bumps, tight turns, and roller solidarity, the association is organizing a public event.
“We will offer a roller derby demo, roller dance, skating workshops in the morning for kids, and a food truck.”
Behind the quirky image and friendly atmosphere of roller derby, their skills are improving. The Aurillac players have attended several bootcamps, including one led by a French champion, and have recently played their first matches in the Trophée Chocolatine in Occitanie, supporting the Castres team. More games are scheduled for May and June.
Sporting Ambitions
Although no real match can be held at Lescudilliers hall, the Pintades still hope to use this celebration to send a message. The club would like to gain more local support to secure a suitable time slot in a gymnasium for the sport. “We are working on solving this issue,” the president mentions.
Because the ambitions are high. The Aurillac team now aims for an entry into National 3, is working on establishing a junior section next fall, and aims to continue developing roller derby in Cantal. It is a discipline that is still relatively unknown, often subject to stereotypes, but the Pintades are determined to bring it to life.
