On Sunday, May 10th, as Mother’s Day was being celebrated in several countries, Celine Dion posted a photo on her Instagram account where she is seen smiling next to a birthday cake, with her late mother Thérèse Tanguay-Dion, who passed away at the age of 92 in January 2020. “Mom, your strength, your tenderness, and your love have made me who I am. You remain with me… discreetly present, guiding my life and that of your grandchildren. As the mother of René-Charles, Nelson, and Eddy, I remember every day how powerful this love is… and how beautifully it plays out in everything we do. Today, and always, we honor you,” emotionally wrote the Quebecois star.
Thérèse Tanguay-Dion, Celine Dion’s mother, suffered from various health problems. This is not the first time the singer of “My Heart Will Go On” pays tribute to her mother. Last March, on the symbolic 99th birthday of Thérèse Tanguay-Dion, Celine Dion wrote on her Instagram account: “As I was talking with René-Charles tonight, you came into our thoughts. I just want you to know that we love you a lot and we miss you. Whether it’s a conversation, a recipe, or a story about you, not a day goes by that you are not part of us. Happy birthday.” Nicknamed “Maman Dion,” Thérèse Tanguay-Dion suffered from various health issues, including memory, hearing, and vision problems.
Will Celine Dion pay tribute to her mother when she returns to the stage? A powerful and engaged woman, regularly praised by the artist’s fan community, she was especially respected for raising fourteen children while she and her husband, Adhémar Dion, had modest incomes. In an interview with Gala in April 2019, Celine Dion once again praised her mother’s incredible personality: “She is wonderful, she is my hero. She did not receive an education. She put aside her dreams to raise us. Every day, I bless Heaven that she is still here. I think she will outlive all of us.” Celine Dion may take advantage of her return to the stage to send another heartfelt message to her mother, as a long series of concerts is planned in Paris starting in September… if her health allows it.
