A bomb dating back to the Second World War was discovered on the site of the gendarmerie school in Ouges, near Dijon (Côte-d’Or), on Monday, March 16, 2026. A security perimeter was set up and a team of deminers intervened on Tuesday, as reported by Le Bien Public.
The gendarmerie school site, currently under construction, is a former air base that was bombed several times during the conflict. According to local newspaper reports, workers find two to three bombs per week. On January 21, an explosive device of around 50 kg was discovered on the site.
Deminers from Colmar
The bomb found on Monday required the intervention of deminers from Colmar (Haut-Rhin) the next day. They concluded that it was ultimately not dangerous. The device had two detonators, one of which was reportedly triggered during the Second World War.
Since the beginning of 2026, authorities have reminded the public not to handle “this type of device or ammunition”. They also recommend prohibiting access to the discovery area and alerting the town hall or law enforcement.
