A simple scare? The French tennis number one Arthur Fils, forced to retire due to a medical alert on Saturday, May 9, at the Rome Masters 1000, was reassuring on Monday regarding his presence at Roland-Garros (May 24 – June 7). “I have undergone all tests with my team, and everything is in order,” wrote the 17th world-ranked player on the social network X.
Felt something during the match in Rome. I ran all the tests with the team and everything is clear.
Already back to work for Paris. Thanks for the messages 🎃🏼— Arthur Fils (@ArthurFils) May 11, 2026
“I am already back at work” for Roland-Garros, specified Arthur Fils, who returned to the main circuit in February after four months away from the courts following a stress fracture in his back sustained during the 2025 Roland-Garros 2nd round. Winner of the ATP 500 in Barcelona in April (clay), he reached the semi-finals of Miami (hardcourt) and Madrid (clay) Masters 1000 before facing a sudden stop in Rome.
“I felt pain in my hip during the second game. I called the physio to try to treat it, but it didn’t work,” the player explained in statements sent to the ATP. “I just didn’t want to take risks before ‘Roland’, so I made this decision,” Fils added.
