IN BRIEF Benedict Cumberbatch, actor of Sherlock, was involved in a heated altercation with a cyclist in London after running several red lights. The scene, filmed near King’s Cross, shows the actor denying certain facts and accusing the other cyclist of insulting him. Several onlookers witnessed the incident, which sparked surprise and reactions on social media.
Unusual scene in the streets of London on Tuesday, May 5th. Around 5:30 pm, near the very central station of King’s Cross, a heated altercation broke out between two cyclists. Except one of them was none other than Benedict Cumberbatch.
As reported by The Sun on Sunday, May 10th, video of the incident (see below</strong) shows the British actor, famous for his portrayal of the famous detective in the series Sherlock, being confronted by an anonymous cyclist for a good ten minutes.
A bystander recounted the scene to the British media. He claims to have seen, just before the dispute broke out between the two men, the actor’s cargo bike run a red light on a bike path. A cyclist behind him then chased him before saying, “I knew you were going to do that.”
Thanks to this witness who filmed part of the scene, we can then hear the cyclist confront Benedict Cumberbatch: “You’re wrong! You’re lying! I was behind you the whole time!” Apparently, the actor actually ran several red lights in a row, then denied doing it in front of this man.
Benedict Cumberbatch even took off his helmet to go confront the man who was calling him out. The actor defended himself by accusing the cyclist of insulting him.
The other cyclist then reacted with a sarcastic gesture of crying, saying, “Oh no, I insulted the guy who broke the law several times! Benedict Cumberbatch admits, “I did it once.” But the accuser doesn’t let up: “And then you ran a pedestrian crossing, you ran three red lights!” “No, not at all,” retorts the actor.
All this under the eyes of several bewildered onlookers, as seen in the images.
“It was crazy! Such an angry scene on a bike, so pretentious, it looked like a staged performance. Despite his outburst, Benedict managed to charm all the spectators,” was the testimony to The Sun from the person who filmed the scene.
