No Kylian Mbappé for the Real Madrid’s last important match of the season. The French forward, in the recovery phase after a hamstring injury, was aiming for a place in the squad for the Clasico on Sunday (9 pm), which could secure the title for FC Barcelona.
The captain of the French national team, who had just resumed training this week, was ultimately not called up by his coach Alvaro Arbeloa for this match that holds little significance for the Madridistas, too far behind in the title race (11 points behind Barca) and with a comfortable lead over the 3rd-placed team, Villarreal (nine points), with four matches left in La Liga.
Mbappé “is still recovering from his injury”, sustained against Real Betis at the end of April, and had only completed part of the collective training session on Saturday, the Spanish club confirmed to AFP. The French striker “continues his rehabilitation”, with one month to go before the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico (June 11 – July 19), the last goal of a frustrating second season in a Real Madrid shirt, shining individually with 41 goals in 41 matches but without a major trophy.
His teammate Aurélien Tchouameni, fined 500,000 euros by the club for a violent altercation with Federico Valverde, is indeed present, as announced the day before by his coach. The Uruguayan, who suffered a head injury, is required to “rest for 10 to 14 days”.
