The Trump administration has published several previously classified government documents on “unidentified anomalous phenomena” as part of a new transparency initiative on this phenomenon that has inspired countless Hollywood stories about little green men.
On Friday, May 8, the Trump administration released a first series of documents that were previously classified on “unidentified anomalous phenomena” (UAP), more commonly known to the public as UFOs. These archives include infrared videos taken by the U.S. military, showing bright spots flying above urban areas, offshore wind farms, or isolated valleys, continuously tracked by military sensors. At present, these images remain difficult to interpret: they show unusual trajectories and thermal signatures, but the available data does not allow conclusions to be drawn on the origin or nature of these objects, which authorities still classify as “unidentified.”
The promise of “total transparency” The White House presents this publication as the first step in a broad transparency initiative ordered by Donald Trump, who promises to gradually lift the veil on American UFO files “in the interest of total transparency.” All declassified documents are now available on a dedicated site, set to be enriched with new releases after filtering to preserve national security imperatives.
