No. 5 Georgia continues its push for the SEC regular-season title, taking a 7-game winning streak into Saturday night’s matchup with visiting LSU
The fifth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (39-11) inched closer to their first Southeastern Conference regular-season championship since 2008 with a come-from-behind win on Friday night and continue their series with the LSU Tigers (29-22) on Saturday night at Foley Field in Athens, Georgia. The Bulldogs ran their winning streak to seven games with their victory on Friday night and, at 19-6, hold a three-and-a-half game lead over Texas A&M and Texas with five SEC games remaining. LSU, meanwhile, fell to 9-16 in conference play, sitting in 14th place.

Georgia erased an early 6-2 deficit and broke an 8-8 tie on Tre Phelps’ three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to claim an 11-8 win in Friday night’s series opener. Daniel Jackson also homered for the Bulldogs while Kolby Branch and Bryan Black went back-to-back with long balls in the fifth inning.
LSU held leads of 2-0 and 6-2 before Georgia closed the gap, with the Tigers getting three home runs in the third inning from Omar Serna Jr., Cade Arrambide and John Pearson. Jack Ruckert tied the game in the top of the seventh with an RBI groundout before the Bulldogs got the go-ahead runs in the bottom of the frame.
Right-hander Dylan Vigue (4-1) starts on Saturday night for Georgia, coming in with a 2.35 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 46 innings while striking out 56. LSU gives the ball to right-hander Marcos Paz (1-2), who makes his fifth start with a 6.08 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in 23.2 innings, striking out 34.
Jackson powers the Georgia attack with 24 home runs, 68 RBI and 23 steals in 24 attempts while slashing .379/.477/.810 and Phelps’ homer on Friday night was his 18th of the season. Arrambide and Jake Brown each come in with 16 home runs for LSU, with Brown topping the team with 49 RBI. The Tigers are in danger of missing the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2007.
