The FDNY battled a large fire at a Midtown Manhattan high-rise, sending black smoke into the air near the start of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Videos show flames and smoke coming from the building’s roof on East 43rd Street, near the parade route. The fire, which started in the building’s cooling tower, was under control after 90 minutes. The building is under renovation, but all construction workers were safely evacuated.

Three people, including an EMS lieutenant and a police officer, suffered minor injuries related to smoke. The St. Patrick’s Day Parade proceeded as planned, with no impact from the fire. However, the area experienced traffic delays, road closures, and mass transit disruptions. Stay tuned to CBS News New York for updates on this developing story.
