UEFA has unveiled the referees who will officiate in the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals, including the Bayern-PSG match.
A good memory for Parisians. UEFA has appointed João Pinheiro to referee the second leg of the Champions League semi-final between Bayern and PSG, on Wednesday (9:00 pm, Canal+), at the Allianz Arena. The 38-year-old Portuguese whistle has already refereed Paris earlier this season. It was on August 13th, in Udine, during the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham (2-2, 4-3 penalties). He also officiated a match for Marseille (a 3-2 win against Union Saint-Gilloise) and Strasbourg (4-0 against Mainz). João Pinheiro has also refereed Bayern twice, during victories against Slovan Bratislava (3-1) in January 2025 and away at PSV Eindhoven (1-2), last January.
This will be João Pinheiro’s first time officiating at such a high level match in the Champions League (14 C1 matches in total), as he has only refereed three matches in the knockout stage of C1 so far, one round of 16 in 2025 and two qualifiers this year. However, he did officiate in the Europa League semi-final this season and in the Europa Conference League in 2025.
