The first episode of the podcast “The Crazy Eurovision Adventure” takes us through the fascinating history of the “Eurovision Song Contest”, as the competition was called when it launched in 1956. It also reveals the secrets behind what has become an impressive international television production whose popularity far exceeds the continent.
It is an opportunity to remind us that originally Eurovision was not a song competition but a communication network that aimed to bring European peoples closer through television. And what better way to bring together the largest number of citizens than through music?
We will also relive the evolution of the Contest. Because although it will establish itself as a fantastic generator of emotions shared by hundreds of millions of viewers, over the decades it will also experience ups and downs, going from wonder to outdated before a spectacular resurgence in the 2010s.
Finally, we will shed light on the backstage to discuss the many changes that the regulations have undergone in terms of language or voting, tell how this great competition is prepared in the weeks leading up to the semi-finals and the grand final, and explain how these extravagant television shows are produced. Through captivating stories, delightful archives, and memories, explanations and tasty anecdotes from Sandra Kim, winner in 1986, Jacques Mercier and Jean-Louis Lahaye, Eurovision commentators, Leslie Cable, head of the Belgian delegation, and Vincent Bayer, an expert on the contest.
