The Grand Cognac Music and Drama Conservatory in Charente will host its open house day on Saturday, May 30 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Throughout the day, the public can explore instruments, artistic disciplines, meet teachers, and enjoy musical and theatrical performances.
Students will actively participate in welcoming guests and demonstrations. There will be a quiz for younger children, instrument trials, and various animation activities scheduled throughout the day. The orchestras at Val-de-Cognac and Champmillon schools will also be featured.
The Grand Cognac Conservatory offers 23 disciplines, 10 group practices, 22 teachers, and 440 students. In the 2025-2026 academic year, there were over 70 concerts and auditions. Starting in the 2026 school year, the conservatory will have a new organ built by local craftsman Bernard Boulay.
The conservatory aims to be accessible to everyone with progressive fees calculated to match individual incomes. The annual fees for a complete instrumental course, including instrument rental, range from €114 for lower income families to €630 for higher income families, with Grand Cognac covering 75% to 95% of the costs. Theatre fees range from €45 to €225 annually.
Special vocal music classes for primary and secondary students are completely free, excluding optional instrument lessons.
