In the closing match of the 28th day of Betclic Elite, Monaco managed to win on Strasbourg’s court after overtime (114-118). Earlier on Sunday, JL Bourg was defeated at home by Saint-Quentin (71-89).

Leading Betclic Elite, Monaco traveled to Strasbourg (6th) on Sunday for the 28th day of the season. In a game full of twists, the players of the Roca Team narrowly emerged victorious in overtime (114-118). Later on Sunday, JL Bourg (5th) was surprised at home by Saint-Quentin (15th) and missed the chance to return to the top 4 (71-89).

Strasbourg forces overtime in dramatic fashion

In the early stages of the match, Abdoulaye Ndoye (23 points on 9/9 shooting, 8 rebounds) caught fire with nine points in the first quarter, allowing the Roca Team to stay close thanks to Matthew Strazel’s long-distance shooting (21 points). After a tight first ten minutes where both teams exchanged blows (23-23), Monaco gradually took the lead in the second quarter, benefitting from a strong performance from Kevarrius Hayes (18 points). SIG tried to stop Monaco’s momentum with the help of Mike Davies Jr (23 points). Monaco finished the first half strong to lead at halftime (45-53).

After the break, Monaco started to struggle, giving Strasbourg the chance to get back into the game. SIG managed to equalize two minutes before the end of the third quarter. The Roca Team maintained a slight lead going into the final ten minutes of the game. Monaco started the last quarter well, building a 7-point lead with three minutes left. Despite Monaco appearing in control, the game took a twist in the final minute as Strasbourg forced overtime with a 5-0 run, highlighted by a long-range shot from Davies Jr (103-103).

In overtime, Monaco took the lead, thanks in part to Mike James’s free-throw shooting (21 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists). Keene kept SIG in the game, but Strazel made the difference, scoring seven points in two minutes and securing Monaco’s twenty-second win of the season, firmly at the top of Betclic Elite. SIG remains in a good position in 6th place.

JL Bourg misses opportunity

In the other game on Sunday, Bourg-en-Bresse – who narrowly defeated Besiktas in the Eurocup on Tuesday – had the chance to catch up to the top 4, currently held by ASVEL. Despite a strong start for Adam Mokoka (10 points) and his teammates, leading after the first ten minutes (20-16), things took a turn.

Lacking total accuracy in the second and third quarters, JL Bourg saw Saint-Quentin’s players excel under the leadership of Eddie Ekiyor (23 points) and Cat Barber (22 points) to take a significant lead at the end of the third quarter (48-64). Although JL Bourg managed to reduce the gap at the start of the final quarter, it was Saint-Quentin who showed more resilience and ultimately emerged victorious. Bourg-en-Bresse missed the opportunity to get back into the top 4, while Saint-Quentin accomplished a great feat in the relegation battle, equaling Gravelines with an identical record, with two days remaining in the season.
