Catherine Deneuve, 60 years later, is still deeply affected by the loss of her sister Françoise Dorléac. In June 1967, tragedy struck the Dorléac family as sisters Françoise and Catherine were on the rise together in “The Young Girls of Rochefort.” On June 16, 1967, Françoise Dorléac tragically died in a car accident while driving on the A8 motorway towards Nice airport. Her sudden death deeply affected her younger sister, Catherine Deneuve, who never truly recovered from the loss.
“I feel like I had to take charge when I lost my sister (…) I was there to support my parents, my sisters. I was a little pillar,” she revealed in a radio interview in 2019. She still talks about Françoise Dorléac today and has shown emotions while watching archival footage on a show in 2023. She described her late sister as charming and modern, admitting that the memories of her sister will never leave her. This is the tragedy of a lifetime.
