British Lando Norris Wins F1 Sprint in Miami

British driver Lando Norris (McLaren) calmly won the sprint race at the Miami Grand Prix Formula 1 and put an end to Mercedes’ unbeaten streak this season on Saturday at the Miami International Autodrome.

The reigning world champion, who started from pole position, finished ahead of his Australian teammate Oscar Piastri (McLaren) and Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), while the Italian Kimi Antonelli and English George Russell in the Silver Arrows finished fourth and fifth respectively.

“A Good Start to the Weekend”

“It was a good race, it’s nice to be back on the top step of the podium, even if it’s just a sprint race. A big thank you to the entire team as the new updates on the car worked well. It’s a good start to the weekend but we must not relax,” said Norris.

Mercedes, who had won the first four races of the season (three Grand Prix and one sprint), could not extend their winning streak, partly due to a poor start by Antonelli.

The current world championship leader, winner of the last two GPs in China and Japan, was second on the grid but struggled at the start and was overtaken by Piastri and Leclerc. He then had to fight to maintain his fourth position against Russell, whom he now leads by 10 points in the standings.

Gasly Secures a Point

Four-time world champion Dutch Max Verstappen (Red Bull) finished in sixth place after a close battle with British driver Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari), while Frenchman Pierre Gasly (Alpine) grabbed the final point available. His compatriot Isack Hadjar (Red Bull) came ninth, ahead of Argentine Franco Colapinto (Alpine).

The third French driver, Esteban Ocon (Haas), had a strong race and finished in 12th place after starting from 17th on the grid.
