Two hours after shots were fired on Saturday during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Donald Trump held a press conference to show that everything was fine for him. Still in tuxedo, he denounced the act of a “potential assassin seeking to kill” after an armed man tried to force his way into a gala attended by the American president.
Facing Donald Trump at this press conference at the White House were journalists in bow ties and evening gowns, who had also made their way to this annual dinner bringing together the elite of politics and media in Washington.
Trump maintains pressure on Iran
The American president specified that a member of law enforcement had been shot. He believed that the assailant, whose identity was not immediately disclosed, was a “lone wolf” and a “nutjob”.
Donald Trump also assured that the shots fired at the gala would not make him “give up on winning the war in Iran”, even though he believes that the incident is unrelated to the international crisis. “I don’t know if this had anything to do with it, I really don’t think so, based on what we know,” he said.
A few minutes earlier, however, he had responded “you never know” when asked if he thought the shots were related to the war in Iran, which he initiated on February 28 in collaboration with Israel.
