The Festival de Films Pêcheurs du monde is back for its 18th edition in Lorient, from March 17 to 29, 2026. Thirteen days of screenings, shows, and meetings with cinema and maritime experts. Pêcheurs du Monde is primarily a film festival. While focusing on fishing, the selected films range from documentaries to fiction. However, fishing is not necessarily the world of Elodie Hachet, a cinema teacher-researcher who coordinates the festival’s programming: “Even though I’m from Lorient, I’m not a specialist at all,” she admits. “But what is good is that in the team, we all have different backgrounds. I will look at the films, the image, or even the aesthetics.” For her, it is also a matter of making cinematographic choices.

Invitation to reflection Elodie Hachet recommends the screening of “Delta” by Michèle Vannucci, on Wednesday, March 25, at 8:15 pm at Cinéville. This film confronts poachers and fishermen in a western-worthy fiction. “It invites reflection on this very fragile ecosystem with a population of foreign labor,” says Elodie Hachet. The programmer will also be present on Saturday, March 21 at 8 pm at the Manège for the double screening of “Les Anneaux d’or” and “Tout revient à la mer,” in the presence of Maxime Leblanc, one of the directors. “The two films echo the invasion of blue crabs in the Mediterranean,” explains Elodie Hachet.

47 films, 23 countries represented The films are sometimes unpublished or unknown. “There are underrepresented countries, and thanks to these images, we have access to landscapes that we are not used to seeing,” enthuses the teacher-researcher. “This is what makes the richness of the festival. And the nuanced discourse is also attentive to today’s issues,” notes Elodie Hachet.
