President Donald Trump assured on Saturday evening that the gunshots fired at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington would not deter him from his war with Iran, even though he believes the incident is unrelated to the international crisis.
“This will not stop me from winning the war in Iran,” the American president declared to the press, a few hours after the shots rang out at the dinner, where he was evacuated from the podium. “I don’t know if it had anything to do with that, I really don’t think so, based on what we know,” he added.
A few minutes earlier, he had responded “you never know” when asked if he thought the shots were related to the war in Iran, which he initiated on February 28 in conjunction with Israel. He also mentioned that investigators were looking into the motives of the presumed shooter, who was apprehended and referred to as a “lone wolf.”
On Saturday, Donald Trump canceled the trip his envoys were scheduled to make to Pakistan in hopes of meeting with representatives from Tehran to end the war.
