Montoir-de-Bretagne Mayor Faces Challenge to Repair Amanda-Blaize Sports Hall
Mayor Pascal Plissonneau, who has been in office for just a month, is dealing with a major issue regarding the roof of the Amanda-Blaize sports hall in Montoir-de-Bretagne, Loire-Atlantique. The sports hall was urgently closed in mid-March due to safety concerns, amidst the local elections. Built in the late 1980s and inaugurated in 1990, the sports hall is showing significant signs of aging. A report from April 13, 2026, highlights an alarming situation.
The dojo is set to reopen, but the main sports hall will remain closed until the end of the year. Mayor Plissonneau expressed relief that the dojo and another hall will reopen in early May. The structural issues in the sports hall are attributed to the undersized framework, leading to repeated waterproofing problems.
A study on the density of the concrete will commence to determine the necessary reinforcement for the framework. The estimated cost for the repairs is at least 2 million euros and will take a year to complete. The mayor aims to avoid a complete reconstruction, which would cost over 6 million euros and take three years to finish.
Planned projects will be affected by the repairs, as observed by the local authorities. Plissonneau notes similar structural issues in other Montoir-de-Bretagne buildings. The repairs for these structures will not begin before 2028.
The priority is on the sports hall, with efforts to phase the repairs to avoid a complete shutdown for a year. In the meantime, local clubs will need to relocate their activities due to the closure.
Despite the challenges, Montoir-de-Bretagne is set to host the French gymnastics championship in June, with coordination efforts with neighboring communities to accommodate the event. The mayor expressed concerns about the limitations on year-end events due to the ongoing repairs.
