While almost every day, American president Donald Trump announces that the war is “almost over,” the US army is deploying Marines troops and additional ships to the Middle East, according to American media reports on Friday as the two-week mark of the war against Iran approaches.
According to the New York Times, around 2,500 Marines and three more ships are heading to the region. The Wall Street Journal quotes American officials saying that the USS Tripoli, based in Japan, along with the attached Marines, are heading towards the Middle East.
Furthermore, the US military claims to have sunk an Iranian submarine during recent operations. During a briefing at the Pentagon, US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Dan Caine asserted that American artillery forces had “made history” by using tactical ballistic missiles in the early days of the conflict.
He stated, “They fired the first-ever Precision Strike missiles used in combat, hitting deep in enemy territory.” He also mentioned that US military personnel had also “used ATACMS from the army to sink several ships, including a submarine.” The official praised “the precision and determination” of the units involved in this campaign. No additional details were provided on the exact location of the submarine’s destruction or the type of vessel hit.
