“To know where we want to go, we must know where we come from, what our roots are,” said Marie Piqué during the presentation of “Parlem” at the Maison de la Région in Cahors. This “Parlem” event includes the exhibition “La Granda revirada” from February 16 to 28, 2026 at the Maison de Ma Région in Figeac, as well as an Occitan evening this Wednesday, February 18, 2026, still at the Maison de Ma Région in Figeac. The evening will have two highlights. After a musical welcome at 6 pm, a conference will take place at 6:30 pm on “bilingualism, a major asset” by the IEC-Bi, an association for French-Occitan bilingualism in public education. The evening will continue at 8 pm with an initiation to traditional dances by the AMTPQ.
“This event is coupled with that of ‘Au en Olt’ which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Occitan Studies Institute (IEO) of Lot with a whole year of festive events around Occitan culture involving Occitan associations of Lot,” added Xavier Vidal, president of the IEO of Lot.
The organizing associations will host various events throughout the year: La Barjacaires, AMTPQ, Granja, Aqui l’Oc, Sulpic, Institut culturel occitan de Beauregard, Cercle occitan de Bégoux, Los Amics del Patrimoni Occitan de Laroque-des-Arcs, Tener l’Esteva, Cercle Occitan de Martel-Souillac, and 15 partner structures.
Numerous events will mark the year, including traditional balls, music concerts, conferences, carnivals, theater, storytelling, and more. With milestones like ‘Parlem’ this February in Figeac and the pastoralism carnival in Assier.
In the spring, the Assizes of the Occitan language and culture will be held in Figeac on April 25. In May, the festival Escambis will enliven Saint-Céré and Bannes, while La Granja will organize “La Prairiale.” Celebrations like “Dançarem, un viatge dansat” in Montcuq in July and the 20th anniversary of La Granja in October will keep the cultural scene vibrant.
The year will end with a Christmas market organized by Festi Céou in December. All these moments share a spirit of conviviality, making Occitan culture lively and attractive to more people.
