Vladimir Putin was absent from the last G20 summit due to a “war crime” warrant.
While Russia claims to have been invited, the Kremlin is still considering Vladimir Putin’s participation in a G20 summit scheduled for December in the United States, the Russian presidency announced on Thursday, April 23.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandre Pankin, cited by Russian agencies, stated on Wednesday that
his country had been invited to participate in this summit “at the highest level.”
The United States holds the rotating presidency of the G20 this year, a forum for economic cooperation among the world’s major developed and emerging countries. The summit is set to take place
at a golf resort owned by the family of Donald Trump in Miami
, Florida.

“No decision of this kind has been made yet
, but Russia has participated in every summit at the appropriate level,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said at his daily press briefing on Thursday.
“As the summit approaches, a decision will be made on the format of our participation,” he added.
Under
a warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC) for “war crimes”
in the context of the Russian offensive in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin did not attend the previous G20 summit in Johannesburg in November 2025.
His economic advisor, Maxim Oreshkin, represented Moscow in South Africa.
