The uncertainty continues to loom over the talks between the United States and Iran. While American officials and military are in Pakistan, Donald Trump has announced an extension of the ceasefire.
Another twist in the Middle East conflict, this time without setting a deadline. “I have ordered our armed forces to continue the blockade. Consequently, I will extend the ceasefire until Iran presents a proposal to end the conflict,” announced Donald Trump. The center of Islamabad (Pakistan) is still sealed off for the talks, but neither the American delegation led by President J.D. Vance nor the Iranian parliament have arrived in the Pakistani capital, as the ceasefire was set to expire in the coming hours.
The American president had ramped up threats during the day: “I expect to bomb again, as it’s the best idea to move forward. It’s going to happen. The military is eager.” To maintain pressure, the US Navy has intercepted a tanker. The Tivani, flying the flag of Botswana, was heading towards Asia loaded with Iranian oil. The American president also calls on Tehran to release eight women sentenced to hanging, something the regime denies. “Do not harm them,” he writes on his social network, “it would be a very good start for negotiations.”
Not enough to impress the Iranians. On state television, the chief of the judiciary appears cautious about the talks. “It is possible that our negotiations may not really come to anything and that we may need to carry out military operations again,” indicated Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei. Since Monday, April 20, American military and official planes have been landing in Pakistan, but Tuesday night the uncertainty remained about whether the talks would happen or not.
