A Dutch media outlet successfully located a frigate accompanying the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle in the Mediterranean Sea, thanks to a Bluetooth tracker hidden in a postcard.

And what if all this was planned? A Dutch frigate escorting the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle was located by journalists using a Bluetooth tracker hidden in a postcard. For the delegate minister to the Minister of the Armed Forces and Veterans, Alice Rufo, there is nothing to worry about.

“To be completely honest, military assets of this nature, when they want to be seen, they are seen. Sometimes, it’s even the goal for them to be seen. After that, when they don’t want to be seen, I assure you they have very powerful means,” she said on Wednesday, April 22 on France Inter.

“Measures taken” after Stravaleaks

The Dutch media Omroep Gelderland sent a postcard to the frigate Eversten to test the security measures of their army. According to them, packages are scanned with X-rays but not the mail destined for the soldiers.

A five-euro Bluetooth tracker was hidden in it, which allowed journalists to track the frigate. This frigate is part of the protection system for the French aircraft carrier in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. The French naval air group was urgently deployed there at the beginning of the conflict in the Middle East.

This is not the first time the location of the Charles de Gaulle has been exposed by journalists. In mid-March, an investigation by Le Monde, “Stravaleaks,” revealed its location through a shared running route on the Strava app by one of the sailors on board. Regarding this issue, Alice Rufo stated on Wednesday that “measures have been taken,” without specifying which ones.
