At 91 years old, singer Pierre Perret reaffirmed his staunch opposition to war in an interview with “Marie France.” The author of “La Petite Kurde” mentioned his friend Jacques Prévert to denounce the horror of global conflicts. He also shared his perspective on his 28 months of military service, an experience he considers a mix of foolishness and social equality.

He doesn’t hold back. 91-year-old Pierre Perret answered questions from Marie France about international current events, particularly war.

“I’ve written so many songs about it. There’s nothing that justifies war,” declares the singer, who has indeed written many songs about war and conflicts, including his song “La Petite Kurde.” This song is now studied in some schools. “Children need to know the dangers that can arise from becoming bellicose.”

“What a load of crap war is!” the 91-year-old singer then echoes a sentiment from his friend, poet Jacques Prévert. “As he said to me: ‘What a load of crap war is! You can’t say it better.'” Pierre Perret also explains that he has always been against war and that his works have shown “the horror of wars” in full.

Finally, he was also asked to react to Emmanuel Macron’s suggestion of reinstating military service, given that he “served 28 months” which he detailed in his song “Le Service militaire.” “I don’t care about the foolishness of all those people who had the same rank on their shoulders for 30 years and the same foolishness in their heads,” explains the singer.

However, Pierre Perret admits that there were not only negative aspects: “It was a kind of melting pot that equalized everyone a bit, the rich, the poor, the educated, the uneducated,” acknowledges the singer.
