Social media has been at the center of particularly serious accusations in recent days. Australian actress and model Ruby Rose asserted, on Monday, April 13th, that she had been sexually assaulted by singer Katy Perry, in a post on Complex magazine’s content. “Katy Perry sexually assaulted me at the Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne. We don’t care what she thinks,” she wrote, referring to incidents that date back about twenty years. She mentioned that it took “almost two decades before talking about it publicly.”
Katy Perry appeared in Rome after the sexual assault accusations. While these accusations were spreading widely, the American artist appeared publicly in Rome, in a somewhat unexpected context. During her visit to the Italian capital, she shared a video on Instagram filmed in front of the famous Trevi Fountain. Following the tradition of throwing a coin for good luck, the singer chose to throw her credit card into the water. Discreet under a hood, amidst the tourists, she captured the moment before posting other pictures of her adventure, including in front of St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican and the Pantheon’s proximity.
Some may have been surprised by Katy Perry’s appearance, grinning, as actress Ruby Rose detailed the scene she described. She claimed that the singer would have “leaned over,” then would have “pulled out her underpants” and “rubbed her disgusting * against [Ruby Rose’s] face until [she] suddenly opened her eyes and vomited in a stream on her.” She also added, “Even though I am very grateful to have held on long enough to find my voice, it shows how traumatic and sexual assault can have an impact.” Despite the seriousness of her statements, Ruby Rose indicated that she did not plan to press charges.
Katy Perry’s camp promptly responded. Through a spokesperson, the singer vehemently denied the actress’s claims: “The accusations circulating on social media by Ruby Rose regarding Katy Perry are not only categorically false, but also dangerous and irresponsible lies.” The statement further added that the actress had “repeatedly made serious accusations against various people on social media, accusations that have been debunked several times by the individuals concerned.”
Despite Katy Perry’s desire to move on, the matter continues to generate strong reactions online. An internet user commented under Daisy’s mother’s video saying, “I don’t understand how Ruby Rose’s accusation went unnoticed.” Another added, “Tell the truth about Ruby Rose.” And another said, “Why don’t you acknowledge the accusations? My dear, you better say something.” The case remains to be followed.
