The United States are in a “very strong position” to negotiate with Iran at a time when a new round of talks is planned in Pakistan.
“I think we will end up with a great deal. I think they have no choice,” declared the American president, referring to the Iranian leaders, during an interview with CNBC.
An American delegation led by JD Vance is set to travel to Pakistan to resume talks with Iran, as an ultimatum set by Donald Trump before potentially resuming bombardments is set to expire Wednesday night, Washington time.
In a triumphant tone, the American president stated that the conflict was from his point of view “won” and praised his qualities as commander-in-chief, even going as far as saying, “I would have won very quickly in Vietnam.”
Donald Trump, exempt for medical reasons, did not fight in the Vietnam War.
The American president also hinted that China, where he is scheduled to go on an official visit in mid-May, had helped Iran to replenish its arsenal.
The Iranians “probably have replenished their stocks a bit” since the ceasefire took effect, said the American president, adding that the United States had “captured a ship yesterday that was carrying some things, which was not very good, maybe a gift from China, I don’t know.”
“I was a little surprised,” he said, adding: “I thought I had an agreement with President Xi (Jinping), but it’s okay, that’s how it is in times of war.”
On April 15, the American president had stated that Beijing, at his request, had “agreed not to send weapons to Iran.”
He had previously threatened China with a 50% tariff on its goods sold to the United States if Beijing provided military aid to Tehran.
