Pete Hegseth, the very manly “Minister of War” of the United States, may one day deign to explain the bombing of an Iranian girls’ school and the death of 175 civilians, emerging from the rubble in the early hours of the offensive against Iran. However, The New York Times, through a geolocation investigation, already concludes that this school was hit by American missiles during the intense attack on a neighboring base of the Revolutionary Guards. This building, until 2013, was located inside the base, then it was separated by a wall following a reconfiguration of military installations. The US military may have used outdated maps to choose its targets. Hence the question: is this atrocious blunder due solely to human error or did military technology also contribute to it? Without answering precisely, The Wall Street Journal mentions the tragedy and the dangers of a “decision based on wrong information,” in the middle of a lengthy article on the massive use of artificial intelligence (AI) by American and Israeli forces against Iran. The Washington Post confirms that about a thousand airstrikes were carried out during the first twenty-four hours of the offensive.
