In the United States, a teacher at a high school in Gainesville, Georgia, was killed after being hit by a vehicle during a prank orchestrated by students. The tragedy occurred on the night of March 6 but was made public on March 9 by USA Today and other American media outlets. According to the Hall County sheriff’s office, the incident took place in front of the victim’s home, as students played a prank by covering the trees in his yard with toilet paper.

Authorities stated that five 18-year-old teens were on the scene when they decided to leave around 11 p.m. in two vehicles. At that moment, Jason Hughes, 40, stepped out of his house. Police reported that he stumbled and fell on the road as Jayden Ryan Wallace, a student driving a pick-up, was leaving the area. The vehicle then struck him.

Severely injured, the teacher was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Jayden Ryan Wallace was charged with first-degree vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving, according to authorities. The five young individuals involved also face charges of trespassing and littering on private property.

The Hall County school district confirmed that Jason Hughes taught mathematics at North Hall High School, where he was also a golf coach. The establishment praised him as a dedicated teacher to the students. He is survived by his wife, who is also a math teacher at the same school, and two children.
