The singer who plays Louis XIV has temporarily stepped back from the stage last week, forcing the show in Toulouse to go on without him. The musical, “Le Roi Soleil,” brought back in 2025 by Dove Attia and Albert Cohen and directed by Kamel Ouali, will have to find a replacement for Emmanuel Moire, who portrays Louis XIV, due to health issues.
For the past two years, the show has been sold out at every performance. After being played by Christophe Maé and Louis Delort, Emmanuel Moire took on the role of Louis XIV, capturing the majestic essence of the Sun King twenty years after making the character famous. However, due to health concerns, Moire announced on social media that he would not be able to perform in Toulouse, leaving the production in a bind.
Fortunately, his partner and understudy, Cédric Chupin, was able to step in and four performances proceeded as scheduled at the Toulouse Zénith on April 11 and 12. Chupin, who previously played the king’s brother, seamlessly transitioned into the lead role. Moire apologized to the Toulouse audience for his absence and expressed his wishes for a successful weekend of shows to the cast and audience.
As Emmanuel Moire focuses on his recovery, “Le Roi Soleil” continues its tour, heading to Pau on April 18, followed by performances in Poitou, Brittany, Saint-Etienne, Strasbourg, and Bordeaux. The return of the singer, also known for winning “Danse avec les stars,” has not been announced yet.
